An Uneven Economy

This week's video highlights some points policymakers are likely discussing at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium and what it means for markets and the economy.

Each year the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City hosts an economic policy symposium. The event this year is titled "Macroeconomic Policy in an Uneven Economy." Central bankers, economists, and market participants will attend the multi-day event and discuss long-term macroeconomic issues. Traditionally held in Jackson Hole, Wyo., this year's event will be virtual due to COVID concerns.

Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve's chairman, is expected to share his thoughts on the economy. However, we don't expect any significant announcements regarding interest rate changes or tapering of their asset purchases. Markets are nonetheless looking for hints coming out of this symposium as asset prices are often evaluated based on the level of interest rates.
