Inflation: Trend vs Level

The most recent inflation report showed consumer prices, on average, increased 8.5% over the past year. Even though inflation is still high, financial markets often care more about the trend than the actual level. Too soon to determine if we are past peak inflation.

The effects of inflation can be widespread and varied. We are keeping an eye on inflation-adjusted hourly earnings as this has provided insight into overall economic health.
