✈️ Take Flight

Plan ahead when traveling this holiday season.

“In 2023, we have already seen seven of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSA’s history,” an Agency Administrator said. The Sunday after Thanksgiving 2023 was the busiest day EVER for air travel in the U.S.

In other news, U.S. credit card debt has also taken flight with a 24% increase over the last five years to an all-time high of $1.079 trillion.

♻️ Jevons Paradox

Speaking of Jet Fuel

In 1865, English economist William Stanley Jevons noted that technological advancements that increase energy efficiency led to an increase in energy consumption–just as an increase in supply could.

Interestingly, a decrease in cost prompts consumers to use more energy as it becomes more affordable. Lower costs can then increase demand and cause a rebound effect in price, where prices rise again. This cyclical thought-provoker is known as the Jevon Paradox.

🕰️ Just a Matter of Time

The annualized real (after inflation) returns of stocks, bonds, and the U.S. Dollar over a period of 220 years provides a noteworthy historical outcome.

  • Stocks +6.7%

  • Bonds +3.5%

  • U.S. Dollar -1.4%

Often, bonds or cash are the stable segment of a portfolio, at least in the short-run that’s usually the case. Stock prices tend to fluctuate more than bonds. Despite this, stocks broadly have been the more rewarding asset type when held over many years.

*Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
